One of the two quarterbacks who will take the field Sunday afternoon led his team on a game-winning touchdown drive last week. The other one had a chance to lead his team on a game-winning drive, but threw an interception instead.
Cowboys vs. Eagles 2015 live stream: Time, TV schedule and how to watch online
Tony Romo and the Cowboys are riding high after a thrilling come-from-behind victory against the Giants last week, and the Eagles hope to rebound after a devastating Monday night loss.
Though Eli Manning deserves an assist for Tony Romo's heroics in the Dallas Cowboys' 27-26 win Sunday night, the fact is Romo delivered when the game was on the line. The Cowboys put together a 72-yard drive in less than 1:30, completing six passes in the sequence. Romo has led the Cowboys on 29 game-winning drives in his career, which places him sixth among active quarterbacks in that category. He proved last week he's one of the most clutch quarterbacks in the game, perception be damned.
Last year, Romo was able to hand the ball off to running back DeMarco Murray, who lead the league with 1,895 yards rushing. But they'll be on opposite sides of the field after the Philadelphia Eagles inked Murray to a five-year, $42 million contract this offseason. Murray only rushed for 9 yards on eight carries in the Eagles' 26-24 loss to the Atlanta Falcons Monday night, but caught a touchdown pass in the red zone. He finished with a mere 20 yards from scrimmage in his Eagles debut.
Philadelphia head coach Chip Kelly used three running backs Monday night –– Murray, Darren Sproles and Ryan Mathews. Sproles was the only back who finished with double digits in yards, rushing for 50 on five carries. He caught seven passes for 76 yards as well.
The Cowboys' defense got a huge boost Sunday with linebacker Sean Lee taking the field for the first time since 2013. Lee could play a big role in stopping the Eagles' intermediate passing attack Sunday.
Dallas will probably have to work the middle of the field as well without star wideout Dez Bryant, who is out 4-6 weeks with a broken foot. Running back Lance Dunbar led the Cowboys with 70 receiving yards last week, and tied Jason Witten for the team lead with eight receptions. Witten caught two touchdown passes, including the game-winner.
Sam Bradford was given the opportunity to march his team down the field Monday night just like Romo, but instead of finding a teammate in the end zone, he found Falcons safety Ricardo Allen. Allen picked off a Bradford pass that bounced off the hands of wide receiver Jordan Matthews. It was Bradford's second interception of the game; the first one came at the end of the first half when defensive back William Moore jumped a route inside Philly territory. The Falcons scored a touchdown on the ensuing possession.
Though Bradford strung together a couple of impressive drives in the second half Sunday, his mistakes were too much to overcome. The Falcons made the Eagles pay for their turnovers, and the Cowboys have the firepower to do the same, even without Bryant.
Though the Cowboys will be undermanned, they demonstrated in their win over the New York Giants they have the offense to keep up with anybody. A football game will be played Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field, but it might more closely resemble an airshow when all is said and done.
