    Alonso dealing with sprained knee

    Rich Schultz/Getty Images

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly told reporters Wednesday that inside linebacker Kiko Alonso is dealing with a sprained knee. Alonso’s status for the Eagles’ Week 3 matchup against the New York Jets is uncertain, though the team will continue to evaluate his progress.

Earlier in the week, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that Alonso would miss time due to a partially torn ACL, but that he’d seek a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews to find out if he can play again this season.

Romo goes on IR with broken collarbone

    Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

Although Romo will not need surgery, a broken collarbone usually comes with a 6-8 week healing period. The team already said it expected to be without Romo for eight weeks, so it makes sense that he’ll be placed on IR.

The Cowboys had been winning 13-0 when the play occurred. Romo was sacked and fumbled on second down to give the ball back to the Eagles. To that point, he was 18-for-27 passing for 195 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions.

Ravens ran the Pats play Harbaugh complained about

As you can see, there’s some trickeration: Gillmore is lined up in the spot where the left tackle is normally lined up, and in the slot, there’s a big ol’ offensive lineman, sprinting backwards.

Harbaugh was upset his team wasn’t given time to interpret all that information, although the rulebook doesn’t say that the refs need to allow that time. What the Patriots were doing was perfectly legal ... at the time.

Alonso’s season could be ‘in jeopardy’, per report

    Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

After tests on Monday, there is a possibility that Alonso could miss an extended amount of time, perhaps even a full season due to the knee injury, according to Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports. His season is “in jeopardy,” though there is still “some evaluation and conversation that needs to to take place” before a decision is reached, Garafolo qualified.

The injury is to the same leg in which he sustained a torn ACL last year. That injury kept him out of the entire 2014 season for the Buffalo Bills, and was one of the reasons many felt like the Eagles were taking a big risk by tradingLeSean McCoy for Alonso this offseason.

    Suh already ignoring Dolphins’ DC

According to the Herald, Suh “strayed from Kevin Coyle’s script” during the 23-20 loss:

At a press conference on Monday, Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin addressed the report and said that the reason for Suh’s lack of production has been teams “running away from him a lot.”

Carlos Hyde expected to play against Cardinals

    Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Hyde was also checked for a concussion during the game, but was cleared to return. San Francisco head coach Jim Tomsula, though, decided to keep Hyde on the sidelines since the 49ers were being blown out.

Hyde had sustained a lower leg injury earlier in the game and had to be looked at by trainers, but went back into the game.

Cutler injured trying to make a tackle after pick

    Mike DiNovo-USA TODAY Sports

The Bears announced that Cutler would miss the rest of the game with a hamstring injury. On Monday, Bears head coach John Fox told reporters that it’s just a strain and said it’s too early to know if Jimmy Clausen will be the team’s starter against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3.

“Anytime it’s not really severe, it’s good news,” Fox said.

Romo, Lacy on Week 2 injury report

The worst fears of Cowboys’ fans were realized Sunday when Romo suffered a left (non-throwing) fractured clavicle after he was driven to the turf by Philadelphia’s Jordan Hicks during his team’s 20-10 road victory. The clavicle -- also known as the collarbone -- bridges the scapula (shoulder blade) and sternum (breastbone) and serves as a strut keeping the upper limb apart from the midsection, allowing for maximum range of motion of the shoulder.

A fracture impacts the normal motion of the affected side, not to mention the extreme pain that is associated with the injury.

Eddie Lacy expected to return next week

    Ronald Martinez/Getty Images

Eddie Lacy left Sunday night’s game after suffering an ankle injury late in the first quarter against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night. The Packers got good news about their running back on Monday. His injury is a minor ankle sprain, and he could be ready to play next Monday when the Packers take on the Chiefs, according to Ian Rapoport.

Lacy had to be carted to the locker room to be looked at by training staff during the game. He had three carries for 9 yards before leaving the game. There’s no word yet about his timetable to return.

    Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Although the Panthers announced that Cotchery was questionable to return to the game, he came back on the field during the second quarter. Later, he left the game after the injury worsened.

On Monday, head coach Ron Rivera said that Cotchery suffered a high ankle sprain, but that he could be back in time for the Panthers’ Week 3 game.

An Eagles player tackled an idiot on the field

Running onto a field mid-game is dumb. It’s dumb when your buddy suggests it to you in the stands. It’s dumb when you decide that it’s a good idea. And it’s REALLY dumb when you get tackled by Nolan Carroll, a player on the team you’re supporting.

Note to potential field runners out there: Nobody thinks you’re cool. The entire stadium is annoyed by your antics. It makes life more difficult for the hard-working folks just trying to be security, and your reward for the whole thing is getting kicked out of the game or worse.

What happened Sunday in the NFL

After losing Dez Bryant to a broken foot in their opener, the Cowboys just lost their Pro Bowl quarterback, too. Tony Romo is expected to be out eight to 10 weeks (or more) with a broken collarbone, and somehow that devastating and season-altering injury didn’t seem as depressing as the Eagles’ performance against a depleted and Brandon Weeden-led Cowboys team (who in are in first place despite all the injuries).

Philly has now rushed for 70 yards on 33 carries this year -- a 2.12 YPC clip -- and Chip Kelly’s mad scientist moves over the offseason haven’t shown great early returns. The offensive line has struggled (after he cut Evan Mathis and Todd Herremans), the run game is nearly non-existent (after he traded LeSean McCoy), the pass defense looks bad (after he gave Byron Maxwell tons of money) and Sam Bradford has only looked competent in short flashes (after he traded away Nick Foles). It’s obviously really early and it’s a long, long season, but what a way to begin the year for the two preseason favorites.

Packers come back to beat Seahawks at home

Seattle’s ensuing drive got to its 42 before Elliott made a one-handed interception to give the ball back to Rodgers with 6:50 to play. The Packers ran the clock down to the two-minute warning, and kicked a field goal for the 10-point lead. Elliott then ended Seattle’s last hopes by forcing a fumble in the final minute.

Rodgers went 9 of 9 for 91 yards and a touchdown in the fourth quarter, as the Packers improved to 2-0. Seattle drops to a surprising 0-2, having allowed 61 points, more than it gave up in any back-to-back games last season.

Davante Adams returns after ankle injury

    Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

The Packers originally announced that Adams was questionable to return, but he was back on the field for Green Bay’s first drive of the third quarter with the ankle taped. He only caught one pass for six yards in the second half, and was obviously limited by the ankle problem.

Adams had four catches for 27 yards before the injury, including an 11-yard gain on Green Bay’s touchdown drive to start the game. He gained 13 yards and a first down before sustaining the injury on the tackle by Seattle safety DeShawn Shead.

K.J. Wright ejected after fight against Packers

Seattle Seahawks linebacker K.J. Wright was ejected against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night after he and tight end Richard Rodgers got in a fight. Rodgers has caught fire in the second half, catching a back-to-back touchdown and 2-point conversion to give the Packers a 24-17 lead. The conversion came against Wright, who jawed with the tight end after the play, and later did this:

Referees called offsetting personal fouls on the play, but booted only Wright from the game ... perhaps not too surprising after he essentially tried to twist Rodgers’ head off.

NFL ref refuses to say the word ‘butt’

Towards the end of the first half of Packers-Seahawks Sunday night, James Jones was ruled to have caught a touchdown. However, review showed that even though his feet were down inbounds in the end zone, his butt was firmly out of bounds at the moment he caught the ball:

Of course, the NFL rules state that you have to have both feet inbounds to make a catch, which Jones did. But if you have another part of your body out of bounds, well, you’re out of bounds. Jones was clearly out of bounds, thanks to his butt.

Jerry Jones is ‘low as a crippled cricket’s ass’

    Nelson Chenault-USA TODAY Sports

Tony Romo is out for approximately eight weeks with a broken collarbone. The Dallas Cowboys still won Sunday, thanks to the ineptitude of the Philadelphia Eagles, but it’s still a dark day for Dallas as its faces the prospect of half a season with Brandon Weeden under center. Jerry Jones expressed it with the folksiest expression I’ve ever heard:

Conclusion: Jerry Jones was unhappy about Tony Romo’s injury.

Seahawks DC got super pumped over fumble

Kris Richard is in his first season as Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator, but he is already a veteran when it comes to celebrating good plays. Richard put his full arsenal of sweet moves on display after the Seahawks recovered a fumble.

High-stepping, pointing and some intense fist pumping. If Richard calls a defense as well as he celebrates, the Seahawks remain in good hands.
