It wasn't pretty and it wasn't perfect, but Derek Carr led the Oakland Raiders to a last-minute win over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, hitting Seth Roberts for his first career touchdown pass with under 30 seconds to go in the game. That gave Oakland a 37-33 lead with 26 seconds remaining on the clock, not enough time for Joe Flacco and the Ravens to mount a comeback.
Raiders beat Ravens with a last-minute touchdown pass
Derek Carr and the Raiders have a win, beating the Ravens on the back of a closing minute touchdown pass.
It was a strong fourth quarter overall for the Ravens, who entered it trailing by 10 points before Justin Tucker connected on field goals of 37 yards and 31 yards, and Lorenzo Taliaferro took in a 7-yard touchdown to give them the narrow lead over Oakland.
Flacco had already put up almost 400 passing yards and a pair of touchdowns on the day, so the Raiders absolutely had to be prepared for him potentially going deep to end the game. Unfortunately for the Ravens, they didn't have hope for long, as Neiko Thorpe intercepted Flacco on the first play of the drive to seal the game.
Here’s a look at the touchdown pass from Carr to Roberts, a rookie who caught three passes for 12 yards in Week 1:
The Raiders are now 1-1, and Carr has to be feeling pretty good about his performance overall. He completed 30 of 46 passes for 351 yards and three touchdowns, with one interception. Flacco finished with 32 of 45 completions for 384 yards with two touchdowns and the game-ending interception.
Baltimore remains winless on the season after also dropping a close game to the Denver Broncos in Week 1. It doesn’t get easier from here, as they have three consecutive AFC North rival games ahead of them, playing the Cincinnati Bengals at home, the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road and then the Cleveland Browns at home. Oakland will play the aforementioned Browns in Week 3.
