Indianapolis Colts cornerback Vontae Davis has been ruled out for the rest of Monday night’s game against the New York Jets after suffering a concussion. He took a hard hit while making a tackle on a screen late in the second quarter.
Colts CB Vontae Davis ruled out vs. Jets with concussion
The Colts are currently without one of their best defensive players.
The Colts have suffered massive losses on defense. The team had already been without Greg Toler, Darius Butler and rookie D’Joun Smith heading into Monday’s game. The loss of Davis for any amount of time would be the biggest blow, however. He was a Pro Bowler last season, and had been doing a good job blanketing Brandon Marshall.
With Davis out, the Colts will rely on young undrafted players Jalil Brown, Sheldon Price and Eric Patterson to keep Marshall and Eric Decker from getting open for quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. Even with Davis in the game, Fitzpatrick has been playing well, going 15-of-24 passing for 158 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the first half.
Adding to the Colts’ rough first half, tight end Dwayne Allen was also ruled out with an ankle injury. With the offensive bogging down and the defense ailing, the Colts are in danger of starting the 2015 season 0-2.
