Ben Roethlisberger leaves Wild Card game vs. Bengals with shoulder injury

Roethlisberger was carted off the field after taking a sack near the end of the third quarter.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger suffered a shoulder injury during Saturday’s Wild Card game against the Cincinnati Bengals. He was carted off the field.

Roethlisberger’s injury occured near the end of the third quarter. While getting sacked by Vontaze Burfict, his shoulder hit the turf hard and he came up in visible pain. After being attended to by trainers, Roethlisberger briefly went to the sidelines before leaving the field on a cart.

Before the injury, Roethlisberger threw for 189 yards and a touchdown on 13-of-24 passing. Landry Jones will take his place if he’s unable to return to the game.

Roethlisberger left amid an ugly scene at Paul Brown Stadium. After a series of controversial calls and chippy play, fans began throwing debris onto the field. They were also throwing objects at Roethlisberger as he was being carted to the locker room.

The 33-year-old has dealt with multiple injuries in 2015, missing four games and rarely being 100 percent. His latest injury could swing a game that Pittsburgh was leading comfortably. Cincinnati just scored its first touchdown to cut the lead to 15-7.
