The first round of the 2016 NFL Draft is officially in the books and it was a crazy one! It was crazy enough to begin with after the Los Angeles Rams and Philadelphia Eagles traded up to the top two picks well before draft day, but minutes before the draft offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil had a video of him taking a hit from a bong posted to his Twitter account.
NFL Draft results 2016: Trades dominate 1st round on Thursday
Laremy Tunsil fell out of the top 10 and the Denver Broncos traded up to get a quarterback in the first round of the NFL Draft.
Later, his Instagram was apparently hacked and he ultimately fell from a sure-fire top-five pick all the way to No. 13, where the Miami Dolphins were more than happy to select him. Whatever happens next with him will be interesting, but he'll be in charge of protecting Ryan Tannehill right from the onset provided there is no league punishment, if such a thing is even feasible.
From there, things went as expected for a few picks. The Rams landed Jared Goff and the Eagles took Carson Wentz, as the whole draft world expected. The first big surprise was the Baltimore Ravens taking Ronnie Stanley over Tunsil, and then again when the Tennessee Titans traded back up into the top 10 to select Jack Conklin, another offensive tackle.
There were other big trades, like the Chicago Bears moving up to take linebacker Leonard Floyd, and the Houston Texans moving up to take Will Fuller. Speaking of Fuller, he was among three receivers who went ahead of Laquon Treadwell, who ultimately went to the Minnesota Vikings at No. 23 overall.
The biggest trade of the day saw the Denver Broncos move up to take quarterback Paxton Lynch at No. 26 overall. Lynch will be the quarterback of the future for the franchise and it effectively killed all talk of the San Francisco 49ers trading Colin Kaepernick to the team.
The New England Patriots, who didn't have a pick in the first round due to DeflateGate, didn't trade up into the first in the end, with the Seattle Seahawks making the final pick at No. 31, landing offensive lineman Germaine Ifedi. Some probably won't like that pick but Russell Wilson desperately needs some more help on the offensive line and Ifedi is that help.
Another trade saw the San Francisco 49ers move back up into the first round to select a guard, Joshua Garnett. Linebacker Myles Jack is probably the top player who didn’t go in the first round, once expected to be drafted in the top five.
