Eli Manning is the quarterback for the New York Giants. Eli Manning will remain the quarterback for the New York Giants for the rest of this season, probably next season too, and maybe even until the moment the Earth finally melts and releases all from our punishing worldly existence.
6 very serious reasons the Giants should bench Eli Manning for Odell Beckham Jr
If you want to win in the NFL, you have to play the players who’ll give you the best chance to win.

This should not be the case. It’s easy to see two Super Bowl MVP trophies and think that Eli Manning is also a good quarterback. And maybe he was, but that is not the case in the year 2018. It will not be the case in 2019, or ever again.
Giants head coach Pat Shurmur shut down any discussion of a change earlier this week.
“You gotta think of some other questions. My goodness,” the coach said when asked about the possibility of playing someone else, specifically Kyle Lauletta.
MANY PEOPLE ARE SAYING that the Giants have nobody better to be their quarterback. Also, wrong. They have Odell Beckham, an elite wide receiver and very good quarterback.
Here are some reasons why they should make the switch.
Stats don’t lie
Beckham is three-for-three on his pass attempts this season, including a two-for-two effort through the third quarter against the Bears in Week 13. He also has two touchdowns and no interceptions. None.
OBJ’s got a perfect 158.3 QB rating. Manning’s at 56.4 in this week’s game.
It’s the interceptions, stupid
Look at the pick Manning threw at the end of the first quarter against the Bears.
That’s not even out of the ordinary for Manning. In fact, it’s a pretty regular feature of his play. It always has been, but you just don’t have the “good” moments to outweigh those anymore.
Let’s take a look at all of Beckham’s interceptions. There are none.
Passion
Have you ever seen Eli Manning excited? No. Me neither. I’m sure he just shows his passion for the sport in his own unique ways, perhaps with memorabilia sales. But this file photo is pretty well established as an accurate look at Manning’s presence.
You don’t have look very hard to see Beckham’s fire. When he’s upset, he just has a li’l one-on-one sesh with the kicking net, and BOOM! he’s back on the field ready to shred.
He knows the playbook better
Oh sure, maybe Manning has the dink and dunk chapters memorized, but Beckham’s been pretty astute at diagnosing the Giants’ offensive problems at times this season. And he’s not afraid to speak up about it.
He went on ESPN back in October and laid it all out, just how bland the offense was. And he was right! While the media went into pearl-clutching mode, the Giants actually took his advice, and it worked!
The day that interview aired, the Giants went out and almost beat the Panthers 31-33, taking the kind of deep shots Beckham advised them to. That game also featured Beckham’s first touchdown pass of the season.
After last week’s loss to the Eagles, Beckham once again correctly pointed out the flaws in his team’s game plan.
“Coming in knowing they’ve struggled in the secondary, personally I would’ve loved to attack them,” Beckham said to reporters after the loss. “But it wasn’t in the game plan. … I don’t know. I don’t call the plays.
“They came out, made their adjustments. They made better adjustments than we did. Ran better plays. They made the plays.”
Big plays
Beckham’s touchdown pass this week was a 49-yard bomb to Sterling Shepard. His touchdown pass against the Panthers was a 57-yarder to Saquon Barkley.
Just look at the big plays this man is putting up cmopared to some of his more celebrated would-be quarterbacking peers.
To be fair, Eli Manning has made some big plays too. Good for him!
But he’s usually pretty averse to that kind of heaving. Just ask Beckham.
“Like I said, I feel like he’s not going to get out the pocket. He’s not — we know Eli’s not running it. But is it a matter of time issue? Can he still throw it, yeah, but it’s been pretty safe and it’s been, you know, cool catching shallow and trying to take it to the house. But I’m, you know, I want to go over the top of somebody.”
That’s from that October interview with ESPN.
Pat Shurmur gave us the best reason for starting OBJ over Eli
“You go into every week with giving your team the best opportunity to win the football game each week. That’s how you do this thing. This isn’t player tryout. This is do everything in your power to win the next game,” he said earlier this week, in response to the same question about whether or not the Giants would keep starting Manning.
If Shurmur and the Giants want to give themselves their best chance to win, they have to play the best players. The best quarterback on the team is Odell Beckham. Start the man. Case closed.
