So much for the game being low scoring.
Penguins Vs. Rangers: Offensive Period Finds Teams Tied At Three At End Of Second
The New York Rangers and Pittsburgh Penguins combined for five goals in the second period to knot the game at three after two periods. The scoring started with Artem Anisimov of the New York Rangers at the 1:41 mark of the first period to give the Rangers a 2-0 lead.
Then the Penguins offense woke up and scored the next three goals. The first goal came from Dustin Jeffrey on the power play at the 5:36 mark. The second goal came from Michael Rupp and the third goal came from Chris Kunitz at 14:12 in the second period.
With the Penguins up 3-2, the physical play started to pick up which culminated in a scrum in front of the Penguins bench. In the scrum, Jordan Staal threw an errant punch, which to some could be construed as a sucker punch, to New York’s Brandon Prust. Staal was given a match penalty which led to a five minute powerplay for the Rangers. The Rangers capitalized with a Ryan Callahan goal 13 seconds before the end of the period to tie the game at three.
Chris Kunitz leads the Penguins with a goal and an assist in the game while ten Rangers have registered a point in this game. The third period is going to bring something whether it be a ton of scoring or a handful of punches thrown.
