Joel Quenneville Hospitalized After Internal Bleeding Caused By Aspirin, Team Doctor Says

Chicago Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville has been stabilized at a Chicago-area hospital following his admission there on Tuesday night.

“Joel was originally admitted to the hospital early Wednesday morning due to gastrointestinal bleeding,” Dr. Michael Terry said in a statement released by the team. “He has been stabilized and today the cause of the bleeding was determined to be a small ulcer caused by aspirin.”

It’s good to hear he’ll be okay. Quenneville apparently told former player Kelly Chase that he was hoping to be back behind the bench on Friday night when the Blackhawks host the Columbus Blue Jackets, according to the message Chase relayed last night on Versus.

If we’re judging by the statement from Dr. Terry, however, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

“He is resting comfortably at the hospital and we anticipate him to make a full recovery and to be released in the next few days,” Terry said. “At the appropriate time, we will update everyone regarding his release from the hospital and return to the Blackhawks bench.”

Let’s hope Coach Q doesn’t miss much more time.
