Mathieu Perreault scored the first goal of the game at the 6:09 mark of the second period to give the Capitals a 1-0 lead. Perreault ended up finding the puck on his stick after it kicked off the glass in a wrap around in the offensive zone and found a goaltender out of position. His goal was assisted by Matt Hendricks and Jason Chimera.
Capitals Vs. Sabres: Pominville And Perreault Lead To 1-1 Second Period
The Buffalo Sabres got that goal back three minutes later when Jason Pominville scored on the Sabres first powerplay of the game. His goal was assisted by Thomas Vanek and Tim Connolly.
The Washington Capitals are outshooting the Sabres 34-18 through two periods and 18-10 in the second period. The Sabres have alleviated the penalty issues that they had during the first period when they gave up four powerplays in the first period with no penalties in the second period. The Sabres are showing their physicality by outhitting the Capitals 14-9 through two periods.
Ryan Miller has had a really good game, making 33 saves for the Sabres, while Semyon Varlamov has made 17 saves for the Capitals.
