Marcus Johansson has scored on the powerplay to give the Washington Capitals a 2-1 lead with ten minutes left in the third period. Johansson tipped in a Mathieu Perreault shot coming off a Ryan Miller rebound. The goal was assisted by Mathieu Perreault and Alex Ovechkin.

The Capitals capitalized for the first time on their fifth powerplay of the night. The Capitals had four powerplay chances in the first period and got the powerplay off of a Shaone Morrisonn interference penalty that happened 1:05 before the goal was scored. The penalty was Morrisonn’s second penalty of the game, his first came in the first period.
The Capitals are being outshot in the third period by the Sabres 8-4 but have outshot the Sabres 38-26 throughout the game. The Sabres have a little time to try and get the goal back, but both goaltenders have played well throughout this game.
