Buffalo Sabres At The 2011 NHL Trade Deadline: Rumors, Needs And Expectations

The Sabres are five points out of the final eighth spot in the Eastern Conference behind the Carolina Hurricanes. With new ownership finally in place, this team will be going through some big changes. Their next two games will be crucial in determining whether this team will make a run at that final spot by making a trade or two, or if they'll start a fire sale trying to get rid of everyone they can.

Status: On The Bubble

Need: Powerplay quarterback, defensive depth, depth at center

Players On The Block: Tim Connolly ($4.5 million), Craig Rivet ($3.5 million)

Prediction: After putting their captain Rivet on waivers, this team is showing that it means business. Look for the Sabres to try to swing a deal any way they can to bolster up their weak spots. If the team loses its next two games before the trade deadline, more than just Connolly and Rivet will be on the block.
