The Carolina Hurricanes have been outplayed for much of the first period in their matchup with the Buffalo Sabres but they still have the 1-0 lead thanks to a Brandon Sutter goal coming at the 19:17 mark of the first period. The assists on the goal came from Derek Joslin and Chad LaRose.

Cam Ward has been the star of the game thus far through the first period. The Sabres have outshot the Hurricanes 22-13 through the first period and Ward has made all 22 saves thus far in the period. Tim Connolly leads all players with four shots on goal while Jeff Skinner has three shots on goal for the Hurricanes.
Buffalo’s Ryan Miller has made 12 saves on the 13 shots from the Hurricanes through the first. The Hurricanes are 20-16-8 when they are being outshot in the game while they are 9-11-2 when they are outshooting a team so this continued pace for the Hurricanes should bode well.
