Hurricanes Vs. Sabres: Hurricanes Get Closer To Playoff Race With 1-0 Win

The Carolina Hurricanes bring themselves to within two points of the eighth and final playoff spot with their 1-0 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night. Brandon Sutter scored the lone goal for the Hurricanes within the final minute of the first period to give the Hurricanes the only goal they needed. The assists on the goal came from Derek Joslin and Chad LaRose.

Cam Ward was the story of the game as he made 42 saves in the shutout for the Hurricanes. The Hurricanes were outshot all night, including a 22-13 first period, but Ward made some timely saves to keep the team in the game and ultimately win the game. Buffalo’s Ryan Miller made 32 saves in the loss for the Sabres.

Neither team could convert on their powerplay chances, the Hurricanes had five while the Sabres had three. Both teams had a handful of shots on the powerplay but the goaltenders really dictated this game and stymied both offenses.

The Sabres will face the Atlanta Thrashers on Saturday night at home while the Carolina Hurricanes will travel to Toronto to face the Maple Leafs on Wednesday night. For more information on this game, please visit our Sabres site, Die By The Blade, and our Hurricanes site, Canes Country.
