Canadiens Vs. Bruins, Game 3: Montreal Tries To Mount Comeback But Boston Wins 4-2

The Montreal Canadiens tried to mount a comeback in the second and third periods, but the Bruins early three goal lead was too much to overcome for the Habs as the Bruins take their first game of the season 4-2.

The Boston Bruins got off to an early lead with a David Krejci goal 3:11 into the first period. Patrice Bergeron fed Krejci with a good pass on a 2 on 1 breakaway and Krejci found the back of the net. The goal was the first lead the Bruins had in the series. Nathan Horton scored later in the first period as he banked the puck off goaltender Carey Price and into the net. The Bruins finished the period with the two goal lead.

The Bruins got the second period started off well with a Rich Peverley goal two minutes into the period. His goal was assisted by Mark Recchi. The Canadiens offense woke up in the middle of the second period as Andrei Kostitsyn got the Canadiens on the scoreboard at the seven minute mark of the second period. The Canadiens outshot the Bruins 13-10 in the second period, but only found the one goal.

The Canadiens narrowed the gap to one goal at the four minute mark of the third period with a Tomas Plekanic goal. That would be the only goal the Canadiens could muster through the game as the Bruins sealed the deal with a Chris Kelly empty net goal at the end of the game.

The Canadiens ended up outshooting the Bruins 36-25 in the game but Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas played well and made 34 saves in the win. Montreal’s Carey Price had 22 saves in the loss.

The Canadiens and Bruins will meet again for Game 4 on Thursday night. For more information on this game, please check out our Canadiens site, Habs Eyes on the Prize, and our Bruins site, Stanley Cup of Chowder. For more on this series, check out our coverage here at SBnation.com
