There's no score from TD Garden in Game 5 between the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens, but the lack of scoring doesn't mean that the game has lacked action. Boston have looked like the better team (at home!!!), while Montreal actually had the best scoring opportunity of the first half.
Canadiens Vs. Bruins, Game 5: Scoreless After One Period
With around 12 minutes remaining in the period, Tim Thomas was caught out of his net during a flurry of chances for the Habs. Michael Ryder instinctively got in front of the net in Thomas's absence, and made the play of the game when he used his hand to make a save, as if he were an actual goaltender. Tomas Plekanec was the man who was denied, and probably can't believe he didn't score.
Other than the Ryder block on Plekanec, the Boston Bruins had most of the other good chances in the first period. The Habs routinely made bad giveaways, but Boston's strategy seemed to be to play it simple and just throw pucks at the net. So, while Carey Price was very good in the first period, he was not made to do anything truly spectacular.
Eventually, if the Habs keep giving the puck away, they’re going to pay the price. They’ll have to clean up their game in the second period to keep the road win streak alive in this series.
