The Pittsburgh Penguins have played better hockey so far tonight than they have in the previous two games in this series, but they have yet to translate that superiority into a goal. It's tied up at 0-0 after one period, and the Pens will likely regret not scoring on the Tampa Bay Lightning when they had numerous chances. At the same time, the Lightning have to be relatively optimistic right now, despite their poor first half play. The fact that they were completely outplayed but are tied is, in a way, encouraging.
Lightning Vs. Penguins, Game 7: Pittsburgh Improved, But Not Winning After Scoreless First Period
The Penguins have double the shots of their opponents and they’re losing the faceoff battle by a mile, but they’ve been gifted a shutout so far. Pittsburgh have been denied a couple of clear penalties, most notably a missed bording call when Mathias Ohland checked Maxim Talbot face first into the boards, but it might not be relevant. Pittsburgh have had two power plays, and they have done absolutely nothing with both.
