While the Caps have won their division for four straight seasons, the team that eliminated them from the playoffs a year ago is headed to the postseason for the fourth straight year.
Blackhawks Vs. Canadiens: P.K. Subban Draws Penalty, Scores OT Winner On Power Play As Habs Clinch
The Montreal Canadiens officially clinched a playoff berth on Tuesday night thanks to an overtime victory over the Chicago Blackhawks. Rookie defenseman P.K. Subban drew a penalty in the extra session and then scored the game-winning goal on that power play to lift the Habs to victory -- and back to the postseason.
Did Subban dive on the play, which sent Jonathan Toews to the box? Some will say yes, some will say no. Others, like those at SB Nation’s Second City Hockey, will tell you it doesn’t matter.
The point is that the Hawks themselves are the ones who left them here. It is their fault that they can be defied by a flawless goalie performance that could cost them a point that could turn out to be fatal. It is their fault that we are praying that Colorado or Edmonton or an uncaring Vancouver or an already-given up Minnesota can do us a favor. No one else did it. And you can look everyone and apportion blame to them.
With Dallas’ win later in the evening, that single point could certainly become fatal indeed. With two games remaining in the regular season, the Stars sit just two points back of both No. 7 Anaheim and No. 8 Chicago. Tight quarters, to be sure.
