The Detroit Red Wings and San Jose Sharks have a total of five goals between them after two periods, but that doesn't mean it's been a game with poor defense or beautiful, flowing offensive hockey. Instead, it's been a game defined by sloppy goalkeeping and lucky bounces thus far, and the Wings have created more of those errors and lucky bounces thanks to their lead in total shots and hits. They lead by a score of 3-2 after the second period, and once again, they got a goal at the end of the period to get The Joe behind them.
Sharks Vs. Red Wings, Game 3: Pavel Datsyuk Gives Detroit The Lead Through Two Periods
Patrick Eaves scored to give Detroit a 2-1 lead early in the period, as Detroit's fourth line created the type of goal that you might expect from a fourth line. Darren Helm threw the puck towards the net, no one dealt with it, and it bounced to Eaves for an easy tap-in. Just a couple of minutes later, Devin Setoguchi scored his second goal of the game in similar fashion, getting a lucky bounce as Jimmy Howard let in a soft goal.
The Wings regained the lead in the final period, scoring their second power play goal of the game and the fourth between both teams. Nicklas Lidstrom and Henrik Zetterberg worked a beautiful play into the zone, with Zetterberg laying the puck off to Pavel Datsyuk, who put the puck between the arm and the leg of Antti Niemi on his blocker side.
