The Vancouver Canucks advanced to the Western Conference Finals with a 2-1 victory over the Nashville Predators on Monday night. This will be their third time overall in the conference finals and their first trip since the 1993-94 Stanley Cup Finals season.
Canucks Vs. Predators Final Score: Vancouver Holds On For 2-1 Victory, Advances To Conference Finals
The Canucks scored two goals in the span of two minutes in the first period for the early lead. Ryan Kesler played a large part in both goals. On the first, Kesler was behind the net and delivered the puck to Mason Raymond, who netted his first goal of the playoffs. Then on the next one, Kesler's stick picked up a Henrik Sedin pass and got the puck to Daniel Sedin for the goal.
David Legwand cut the Predators' deficit to just one goal when he snapped off an 11-foot wristshot in the second, but replay was needed to confirm the goal. Long after the booth confirmed the goal, Versus had an enlarged photo to show that the puck did cross the goal line before Roberto Luongo fell on the puck.
Nashville, though, was never able to take advantage of any of their five power plays, four coming in the first period. With the elimination, the Predators still made their farthest advance in the playoffs in franchise history.
The Canucks will face the winner of the San Jose Sharks-Detroit Red Wings series. The Sharks can advance with a victory on Tuesday night.
