Rangers Vs. Senators, NHL Playoffs 2012 Game 2: Dirty Play Highlights First Period

The Ottawa Senators came to Madison Square Garden Saturday night with a message to send. The top-seeded New York Rangers beat them out of the building in Game 1 on Thursday, and the Sens wanted New York to know they were there to make this a series.

It all started off according to plan ... well, sort of. Matt Carkner and Chris Neil made Brian Boyle answer for a few hits that didn’t please Ottawa in Game 1 but, despite the energy that clearly permeated the Sens game afterward, they couldn’t turn it into a number on the scoreboard.

The Rangers made them pay for that. On a power play at the 10:11 mark of the first, Anton Stralman put New York up 1-0.

It was a weak goal that just snuck through goaltender Craig Anderson, but it counts just the same. Ottawa looks better than they did in Game 1, but they don't have anything to show for it just yet.
