Burns was hit in the face with a puck during the team's game against the Calgary Flames on Saturday night. In addition, Burns was hit in the face with the stick of Ottawa Senators goaltender Robin Lehner on Oct. 12. According to McLellan, Burns will not play Monday but could be available for Thursday night's game against the Boston Bruins, via Comcast SportsNet Bay Area:
“Brent won’t play tonight. He got hit in the teeth - well, he doesn’t have teeth, I guess in the gums - the other night, and they are bothering him right now,” Todd McLellan said. “He’ll be out tonight, and hopefully he’s ready to go when we get to Boston.”
Burns has registered eight points this season (four goals, four assists) and is third on the team in goals. He will be replaced by 21-year-old rookie Freddie Hamilton, who will play with Joe Thornton and Tomas Hertl.
