Daniel Alfredsson's first game against the Ottawa Senators, the only franchise he had played for prior to this season, did not get off to a good start for his new team on Wednesday night.
Senators chase Jimmy Howard in first period
Jimmy Howard lasted just 15 minutes on Wednesday before he was benched, giving up three goals on the first eight shots he faced.

And it never got any better in a 6-1 loss.
The Senators struck for three early goals on their first eight shots on goal, resulting in Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard taking an early seat on the bench just 15 minutes in.
He was replaced by backup Jonas Gustavsson.
Eric Gryba, Jason Spezza, and Bobby Ryan did the damage offensively, with the latter two goals coming on the power play. Ryan was Ottawa's major offseason acquisition, coming over in a trade from Anaheim in exchange for talented youngster Jakob Silfverberg. He's been off to a great start. His goal on Wednesday was already his fifth goal of the season, and he looks like he could on his way to yet another 30-goal season, something he did four times over the past five years in Anaheim. The only year he didn't score 30 over that stretch was last year's lockout shortened campaign.
Ryan and Spezza each added goals later in the game, including a nifty goal from Spezza that included him setting himself up with a pass off the boards.
