Ryan Kesler scored his fifth goal of the season in the first period of Thursday's game in New Jersey, and one of the players that helped set him up was goaltender goaltender Cory Schneider.

Cory Schneider gets an assist on a goal from Ryan Kesler. The only problem: Those two guys no longer play on the same team.

In recent years that would be a perfectly reasonable sequence. This season, not so much. Because Schneider and Kesler no longer play on the same team.
After an innocent dump-in by the Canucks' Dan Hamhuis from the neutral zone, Schneider and Devils defenseman Andy Greene had a bit of a miscommunication on who was going to do what with the puck, and it ended up turning into an easy two-on-none for Kesler and Henrik Sedin.
So that probably could have gone better for the Devils.
Kesler’s goal tied the game at one, but the Devils quickly broke the tie a few minutes later when Eric Gelinas scored his first career goal.
This is Schneider's second game against his former team, having already lost to them this season in overtime in Vancouver. The Canucks traded Schneider to the Devils at the NHL draft in exchange for the No. 9 overall pick.
