Colorado Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov is in a Denver jail on Wednesday night after he turned himself into police to face domestic violence charges, including second-degree kidnapping and third-degree assault, the Denver Post reports.

The Avalache goalie cannot post bail to get out of jail until he sees a judge Thursday morning.
The kidnapping charge is a Class 4 felony in Colorado -- and could carry a 2-6 year prison sentence if convicted according to Ryan Parker of the Post -- while the assault charge is a misdemeanor. The Post notes a Class 4 felony is defined as “taking someone and moving them to another place without their consent.”
The incidents were alleged to have taken place sometime on Tuesday. Varlamov turned himself in to police on Wednesday night. Varlamov will spend at least one night in jail, as he is not able to post bail due to the assault charges. Before he can post bail, he must first see a judge; his court date is set for noon (ET) Thursday, according to the Post.
The Avalanche issued a brief statement saying they are aware of the charges but declined any further comment.
Varlamov, who is being held in his own jail cell, also declined an interview with Parker, as did first-year coach Patrick Roy.
Colorado, currently in first place in the Central Division, doesn’t play its next game until Friday night, when it travels Dallas. Even if Varlamov is out of jail by then it’s unclear as to whether he would be able to travel to Dallas based on the charges against him.
