Penguins vs. Lightning preview: No Evgeni Malkin, no problem?

The Pittsburgh Penguins will host the Lightning on Sunday evening, without second-leading scorer Evgeni Malkin.

The Pittsburgh Penguins will be without reigning NHL MVP Evgeni Malkin on Sunday as they host the Tampa Bay Lightning, in a matchup between two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference this season.

The Penguins have won four their past five games, the only hiccup coming in a thrilling 6-5 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday night. Second in the NHL with 3.28 goals scored per game, the Penguins will be without one of the top two players in the world as Malkin remains out with concussions symptoms.

Malkin was injured after falling awkwardly into the boards following a check by Panthers defenseman Erik Gudbranson on Friday night.

The top scoring team in the NHL with 3.88 goals per game, the Lightning have nevertheless struggled with keeping the puck out of their own net and sit No. 23 in the NHL with 3.1 goals allowed per contest. After a 6-1-0 start to the season the Lightning have got 3-5-1, but have now won three of their last four -- including a 5-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday evening.

Puck is set to drop at 7:30 p.m. ET with national coverage on NBC Sports Network and local coverage on ROOT Sports.
