Maple Leafs vs. Lightning: Martin St. Louis watches Ray Ferraro’s feature from the bench
Instant feedback!
We all like to make fun of Pierre McGuire and the like often. But perhaps we aren’t giving these between-the-bench reporters enough credit, because sometimes their own critics are right next to them.
Near the end of the first period between the Leafs and the Lightning, TSN's between-the-bench man Ray Ferraro introduced a little vignette on Martin St. Louis between whistles. It was your standard run-of-the-mill report, featuring footage of St. Louis off- and on-the-ice and Ferraro trying to draw comparisons between the two.
It's little wonder that Ferraro threw so much praise toward St. Louis considering the veteran was watching the feature from the bench. In a bizarre moment, St. Louis -- who happened to be sitting right next to Ferraro -- watched footage of himself play on the little monitor in front of Ferraro as the reporter did a live take. It was that rare moment where the fourth wall of live sports was broken. Even Teddy Purcell craned his neck to watch.
If only St. Louis had heckled Ferraro.
