Wild vs. Red Wings: Referees blow Jordin Tootoo’s no-goal call

The refs ruled the puck was played with a high stick, but it was played with Dany Heatley’s hand.

The Detroit Red Wings should be tied with the Minnesota Wild right now, but a questionable bad awful call by the officials kept them off the board in the first period.

When Jordin Tootoo flicked the puck up toward the net off the rush, both Drew Miller and Dany Heatley made attempts to corral it. Miller raised his stick up in the air and whiffed on it, but Heatley managed to hit the puck with his left hand. That sent it bouncing between Niklas Backstrom's pads Tootoo whacked it into the net.

So, to recap: Drew Miller did not touch the puck at all. And yet, the referees called it a no-goal. Unfortunately Dany Heatley’s hand looked like Drew Miller’s stick. Or something.

I guess the redeeming part about this bad play is that Pierre McGuire was emphatically wrong.
