The Penguins offense will get a huge boost today, but their defense will suffer a loss that could potentially be bigger.
Jarome Iginla will play today for the Penguins against the Islanders
Recently acquired winger Jarome Iginla will play his first game today for Pittsburgh, in a bit of an unexpected twist. Iginla was reportedly not expected to play for the Penguins today, but merely make it to Pittsburgh and be with the team. Iginla will play on a line today against the New York Islanders with James Neal and Evgeni Malkin. We wish the Isles a hearty good luck in their endeavor to stop this, as well as Chris Kunitz and that Crosby fellow on the Pens’ “other” top line.
News was not all positive for Pittsburgh however, as coach Dan Bylsma revealed today that defenseman Paul Martin will miss six weeks (meaning the rest of the regular season at least) with a broken bone in his “upper body,” believed to be his wrist. The injury shuts down what had been a solid, bounce back regular season for the Minnesota-born defenseman, who was tied for sixth in the league among blueliners with 21 points.
Tomas Vokoun starts in goal for Pittsburgh, though Marc-Andre Fleury will be dressing to back him up.
