NHL schedule: Five questions for Wednesday

A daily feature which asks the five hardest-hitting questions imaginable about this day in the NHL. Will our quandaries be answered? (That doesn’t count as one of the five questions.)

1. How will the Pittsburgh Penguins perform in their first game after the end of their winning streak?

Pittsburgh won 15-consecutive games before falling to the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night. Will their extended streak turn into a run of futility or will they get right back on track against the New York Rangers?

2. How will the Rangers perform in the wake of the Marian Gaborik trade?

New York unloaded one of their key offensive pieces when they moved Gaborik prior to Wednesday’s deadline. Will the move have any impact on the team’s performance?

3. Will the Montreal Canadiens extend their three-game winning streak against the Philadelphia Flyers?

Montreal is five points back of Pittsburgh but has played two less games. The best way to catch up to them? Continue their three-game winning streak. Philadelphia is clinging to the hopes of qualifying for the playoffs and will look to extend a two-game winning streak of their own.

4. Will the Edmonton Oilers extend their four-game winning streak?

The Oilers will take over control of the eighth seed in the West if they can extended their streak to five-games.

5. How will the Dallas Stars play following their mini-fire sale at the trade deadline?

Dallas didn't unload everybody, but they moved some significant pieces in Derek Roy and Jaromir Jagr. How will the team far in the wake of these deals?
