It might just be time to take the New York Islanders seriously.
NHL scores: Islanders stay hot against Flyers, Weiss leads Wings over Senators
Upside for Flyers fans: Steve Mason got a shutout. Downside: He still lost. Elsewhere, the Wild beat the Panthers in Sunrise.

The Isles kept their winning streak going with a 1-0 shootout win against the Philadelphia Flyers Monday. Jaroslav Halak and Steve Mason were both outstanding through 65 minutes, but Mason couldn't do much to stop Frans Nielsen or John Tavares in the shootout to give the Isles their fourth win in a row.
Halak stopped 21 shots through regulation and both shots in the shootout. Mason stopped an incredible 46 shots through overtime. Both goalies get credit for a shutout, but it’s Halak who gets the win.
The Islanders improved their record in November to 9-2-0 and have won 15 of their first 21 games for the first time in franchise history. They are still tied atop the Metropolitan Division with the Pittsburgh Penguins with 30 points. It's still a tie because the Penguins beat the Boston Bruins, 3-2, in overtime.
Evgeni Malkin scored twice and Sidney Crosby had a goal and two assists. Marc-Andre Fleury got the win and became the third-fastest goalie in NHL history to do it. You can read our three thoughts on that game here.

Three Things We Learned
1. Stephen Weiss is alive and scoring. Weiss missed most of last season and the vast majority of this season's start with a myriad of injuries. He scored two goals against Ottawa Monday, his first goals since Oct. 14, 2013, and equaled his goal total from last season in one game.
2. Youth shall lead them in Minnesota. We've raved plenty about Nino Niederreiter with the Wild of late and he scored his 10th goal of the season against Florida. One guy we're not paying attention to? Jason Zucker. He had two against the Panthers and has eight on the season. We could have predicted Niederreiter breaking out, especially after the playoffs last season. But Zucker? A pleasant surprise for Minnesota.
Yeo on Zucker: we’ve seen a real development in the player.

The Red Wings were coming off a 4-1 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs Saturday night, a game they had control of until the third period. Things got a bit shaky again in the third, but the Wings held on. They also put 43 shots on Craig Anderson. Stephen Weiss returning and scoring twice was huge, especially with Pavel Datsyuk still out with a wonky groin. Mike Babcock will have some interesting choices to make with his lineup when Datsyuk returns. Weiss going off the way he did helped put a pleasant crinkle in things.
Impact Moment
It’s hard to look past Malkin’s overtime winner against Boston. In fact, let’s just keep looking at it over and over again.
Stat of the Night
If you’re going to overtime against the Islanders, you might want to win the game then because they’ve been unbeatable in the shootout.
#Isles now 5-0 in shootouts. Their shooters are 10-16 (62.5%); goalies have allowed 3 in 15 shots (80.0%)
