For the most part, the NHL’s new rules (3-on-3 overtime and limited coach’s challenges) have been successful. And NHL coaches have not been hesitant to utilize the latter rule to their benefit so far this season.
Capitals goal overturned on controversial coach’s challenge decision
The NHL has its first controversial coach’s challenge!

However, it was only a matter of time until the NHL ran into a controversial decision, and it might've occurred on Tuesday in Washington. The Capitals appeared to score in the second period when defenseman Dmitry Orlov's shot from the point beat San Jose Sharks goalie Martin Jones.
But Capitals forward Jay Beagle got too close to Jones for Sharks coach Peter DeBoer's liking, and he challenged on the basis of goalie interference. Did he have an argument?

— Stephanie (@myregularface) October 14, 2015 It might’ve been the slightest of arguments, as Beagle definitely did make contact with Jones’ glove but not enough to make it clear whether Jones was impeded on the play. It was indeed overturned, with the referees claiming Jones wasn’t given a chance to stop the shot. The NHL explained:

That didn’t keep many fans and media members from crying foul over the decision.
Only real question at this point is whether overturning the Orlov goal was horse or bull shit. I vote horse - had an equine feel to it.
