The year was 1980, and a miracle happened.

What the United States hockey team did at Lake Placid all those years ago still seems hard to believe. It is arguably the biggest upset in sporting history and it is one that Americans hold with great pride as it instilled a belief that anything truly was possible. David can indeed beat Goliath.

One of the main characters and players from that U.S. team, goaltender Jim Craig, was kind enough to join us here at SB Nation this week as he and his teammates from those days are prepping to “Run Back the Miracle.” You can watch our conversation below.

Craig spoke to me from within the very same locker room that he and the Americans got dressed in for their match against the Soviet Union. Herb Brooks and I both held court with Jim Craig while he was seated in that room, if you really want to look at it that way!

Aside from offering all sorts of advice that has clearly helped Jim have an amazing life following the moment in question, he told me about how he and his teammates have teamed up with Michelob ULTRA to “Run Back the Miracle” ahead of the Olympic Winter Games. Today, Thursday, January 15th, they are having a throwback event with all sorts of technology in place to help fans re-live the iconic moment.

Fans in attendance will have the opportunity to interact with everything and get excited for the upcoming Olympics as noted.

Go United States. Then. Now. Always.
