The protection lists are slowly dribbling out, the latest is the New England Revolution. The biggest surprise here appears to be the decision to protect two goalkeepers, Matt Reis and Bobby Shuttleworth.
MLS Expansion Draft: New England Protected/Unprotected List
Neither was particularly good with Reis posted a 1.76 goals against average and a .646 save percentage. Both were considerable drop-offs from 2009 when he had a career year with .96 and .814 averages, respectively. Shuttleworth was just as bad, registering .667 and 1.67 averages.
Among the regular starters not protected were defender Cory Gibbs (25 starts), midfielder Pat Phelan (25) and Seth Sinovic (18). Ilija Stolica (three goals) and Zak Boggs (two goals) were the highest scorers left unprotected.
