While Chelsea will be thrilled to finally find a win (the 7-0 FA Cup win over Ipswich didn't really count) last year's champions still did not look like a team of serious title contenders. The match started off brightly, with the Blues flowing toward the Blackburn Rovers goal and Ramires hitting the crossbar within two minutes. While Rovers could barely mount an attack, taking three shots all match, Chelsea simply couldn't finish their chances.
Chelsea Vs. Blackburn: Branislav Ivanovic Wreaks Havoc On Blackburn, Blues Win 2-0
Branislav Ivanović was the hero for Chelsea, getting official credit for the first goal and providing the headed assist for the second. The Serbian was massive in front of goal, muscling away Blackburn players, rising above their heads, and generally being terrifying. While Nicolas Anelka tapped in the second goal for Chelsea, it was Ivanović's header that truly sealed the match.
So it's three points for the Chels, but is it enough? Should Tottenham win tomorrow, they'll be back in fifth place. Worse than that, though, is the total lack of creativity emanating from Carlo Ancelotti. The young Josh McEachran came on and showed off his skills for the last fifteen minutes, but why are he and Daniel Sturridge getting so few chances? If Chelsea want to save themselves, they'll need to take a risk on their youngsters.
