Racing Genk are an extremely talented side. This is why - and you may have gathered this information on your own - they were able to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. Unfortunately for them, a lot of that talent is injured at the moment. Talented young Belgian international Kevin De Bruyne, a rumored transfer target for Chelsea, is just coming back from injury. Meanwhile, Genk's entire back line is injured. Yes, they don't have any fit defenders. Really. Chelsea FC blog We Ain't Got No History explains.
Chelsea Vs. Racing Genk, 2011 UEFA Champions League: We Ain’t Got No History Outlines Genk’s Defensive Woes
It’s slightly annoying that we didn’t succeed in prying Kevin de Bruyne out of Genk’s hands on August 31st, both because we’d have yet another lovely little prospect on our hands and we’d probably be able to force their best player to sit these two matches out. Perhaps Chelsea bought their back line, though - there appear to be zero fit defenders travelling to Stamford Bridge with David Hubert, Jeroen Simaeys and Torben Joneleit all staying at home and Nadsen also a huge doubt. Daniel Pudil, ostensibly a winger, has been forced to play at fullback and thus has been blighted with the curse as well.
In other words, the Genk lineup is going to really really weird.
This feels like it's going to be the game where Fernando Torres scores a hat trick and snaps out of his long-term scoring funk. Poor Genk, they're actually a pretty decent side when they're healthy.
