So, Wigan to get relegated, yes? Eleven matches into the season and the Latics have won a grand total of won game, earning just five points, a tally which sees them rooted to the bottom of the league with only Blackburn Rovers for company. If Roberto Martinez thought that squaring off against a struggling Wolverhampton Wanderers side would help... well, it did, I suppose. For a half. And then it didn't.
Wolverhampton Wanderers Vs. Wigan Athletic, 2011 Premier League: 3-1 Win For Wolves
Jamie O'Hara opened the scoring at the Molineux for the hosts with a close-range finish just seconds after a bad miss by Hugo Rodallega which should have seen Wigan go in front, but the visitors pressed and earned a penalty that was eventually tucked away by Ben Watson, who notched the rebound after Wayne Hennessey made the initial save. Things changed rapidly after the restart, with Wolves very much in the ascendancy and although Ali Al-Habsi made several terrific stops the hosts still found the net twice more, with David Edwards and Stephen Ward the scorers. Wigan's defence was a shambles and their forwards never really threatened again, leaving Wolves' long winless streak over and the Latics in deep trouble indeed.
