Out of all the possible scorelines between Bolton Wanderers and Stoke City at the Reebok Stadium, I don't think very many people would have put any amount of money on a 5-0 home win. Stoke have been largely unimpressive of late but Bolton have been largely dire all season, having failed to notch a victory since an opening-day win against Queens Park Rangers. Perhaps they were saving everything up for this match.

The hosts had 61 percent of the possession and layed in 22 shots in what's probably best described as an onslaught on poor Asmir Begovic's goal. Kevin Davies grabbed the opener within two minutes of kickoff and Bolton never looked back, adding another through Chris Eagles in the 23rd minute before a late flurry of goals in the second half saw both Eagles and Ivan Klasnic end the match with two goals to their credit. It was an emphatic display from a team that desperately needed a win like this - is this the result that turns Bolton's season around? They'll need more of the same, because as things stand the Trotters are still in the relegation zone.
