An ugly game and an ugly result for Aston Villa, who should surely have done better than losing 1-0 at home to relegation-zone Wolverhampton. Granted, this is a team that's been hit hard by injury (there was one recognised centre back available to Gerard Houllier for the match), but allowing Wolves to dominate the game while deploying a mostly-fit midfield should be deeply embarrassing for the manager, who made a series of curious decisions throughout the match.
Aston Villa Vs. Wolverhampton: Wolves Take Match At Villa Park
Matt Jarvis notched a deserved first-half goal for the visitors in the 38th minute when he crashed home a volley, but Wolves had the ball in the net twice more in the opening period, only to see the strike ruled out for offside and the ball going out of play respectively. Although Ashley Young hit the crossbar for Villa late on, they didn't deserve to be level and were fairly fortunate that they only lost by a goal. Relegation is now very much a possibility for the midlands side.
