Stoke City hammered a misfiring Newcastle United 4-0 as the Potters ran riot at the Britannia Stadium. Jonathan Walters opened the scoring in the first half before two goals early in the second killed off the match, with Ricardo Fuller adding insult to injury by nicking home a tight finish to make it four deep into injury time. Newcastle, who had started in a 3-5-2 shape, saw their plan badly disrupted by an early injury to defender Jose Enrique, but they fought bravely after the opener and could have gotten themselves back into the match before Stoke grabbed two more right after the break.
Stoke City Vs. Newcastle United: Potters Hammer Magpies 4-0
Magpies goalkeeper Steve Harper can only have himself to blame after a poor clearance eventually led to an easy finish for Jermaine Pennant, and shortly thereafter Danny Higenbottom was able to lash a free kick home to earn a vitally three points three points for Stoke. The result sees them climb above Newcastle into tenth place, just five point behind Liverpool in sixth.
