Tottenham Hotspur have just seen next year's Champions League hopes dealt a major blow as they failed to score against a resiliant West Ham United at White Hart Lane. Tottenham, who went into the match in 5th place and two points behind Chelsea, desperately needed to win in order to vault back up over their London rivals, and if not for a series of miscues from striker Jermaine Defoe would have done so quite comfortably. However, the England striker, with just two goals to his name this season, made error after error when it could be argued that he probably should have notched a hattrick.
Tottenham Hotspur Vs. West Ham United: Scoreless Draw At White Hart Lane
It wasn't all Defoe, though. Robert Green had a fantastic night in goal for the Hammers, his best moment coming when he acrobatically tripped Gareth Bale's late free kick onto the crossbar in what might go down as the save of the season. West Ham had chances to score as well, and Spurs might consider themselves a little lucky that their profligacy in front of goal didn't cost them all three points. it's a big result for West Ham, who have managed to ease themselves out of the relegation places when they looked like locks to go down just six weeks ago.
