Arsenal's season is rapidly descending into farce. Knocked out of the Carling Cup, FA Cup, and the Champions League in what must have been an awful three-week span for players and fans, the Gunners saw their title challenge take a huge blow as they dropped points at the Hawthorns to an excited West Bromwich Albion side. It took less than three minutes for Arsenal's porous defence to be exposed, with Steven Reid making it 1-0 with a simple header off a corner, and things became much much worse for the Gunners when Manuel Almunia's dreadful error presented Peter Odemwingie with an open goal.
West Bromwich Albion Vs. Arsenal: Gunners Mount Comeback But Can Only Earn Draw
With an hour gone, the score was 2-0 West Brom, and the Baggies looked as though they were on course to earn a historic double over Arsenal. It wasn't to be thanks to a pair of late goals by Andrei Arshavin and Robin van Persie (van Persie's goal was originally attributed to an own goal from Abdoulaye Meite), but the Gunners couldn't get the vital third goal despite flooding forward towards the end of the game. Although it was a remarkable comeback, Arsenal will be very disappointed with the result as Manchester united earned a late 1-0 win over Bolton.
