Clint Dempsey's second half goal was not enough to earn a share of the points as Fulham fall to Everton by a final score of 2-1. Mark Hughes' side was barely a threat in the first half as the hosts ran rampant, coming close several times before Seamus Coleman's neat header flew into the back of the net following good work by Leighton Baines. At 1-0 down, Fulham still had a chance, but shortly after the interval Louis Saha struck from a low free kick that nutmegged Danny Murphy in the Fulham wall to double the Toffees' advantage, leaving the visitors with some serious work to do.
Everton Vs. Fulham: Toffees Ride Late Storm, Win 2-1
The introduction of Bobby Zamora (and later Gael Kakuta and Eidur Gudjohnsson) gave Fulham's attack added impetus, and they soon pulled a goal back, but for all of their second half pressure simply couldn't get another goal past Tim Howard in the Everton net. It's a disappointing result for Hughes, whose team could have gone into the top half with a win, while David Moyes will be elated to see Liverpool just two points ahead of his club in sixth place.
