With all the problems MLSSoccer.com has been having today, it wouldn't be all that shocking to get the starting formations wrong. But assuming they got it at least mostly right, it appears the San Jose Earthquakes are at least going with a three-back formation, and possibly something that looks like a 3-6-1 formation. More likely, the formation will set up like a 3-4-2-1 with Chris Wondolowski as the lone forward. Ramiro Corrales, Jason Hernandez and Chris Leitch are in front of Jon Busch in goal. Khari Stephenson, Sam Cronin, Brandon McDonald, and Joey Gjersten are in front of them and Bobby Convey and Ryan Johnson will essentially play as forwards.
San Jose Earthquakes Vs. Real Salt Lake: Are Quakes Really Going With a 3-6-1?
Real Salt Lake will counter with their standard 4-4-2 diamond. Nick Rimando will be in goal with Tony Beltran, Nat Borchers, Chris Schuler and Chris Wingert will be on defense. Kyle Beckerman will be the central defensive midfielder with Javier Morales in front of him and Will Johnson will be on the left with Ned Grabavoy on the right. Fabian Espindola and Alavro Saborio will be the forwards.
