So much for that promotion, not expansion thing, eh? It's been a terrible debut for the Portland Timbers through 45 minutes, and they're getting absolutely obliterated by the defending MLS Cup champions, the Colorado Rapids. It's 3-0 at halftime, and it's a well deserved 3-0 lead for the Rapids. They have been the better team in every facet of the game, and the Timbers have absolutely no answer for Conor Casey.

The Rapids' first goal came from a poacher's effort by Jeff Larentowicz in the 8th minute, assisted by Omar Cummings, and Cummings got a second goal of his own in the 30th minute. Just one minute later, Jamie Smith blasted a shot into the top corner, and it seems highly unlikely that the Timbers can even make this one interesting. Kenny Cooper hasn't had much chance to influence the game, thanks to Larentowicz and Mastroeni dominating the game in the midfield, and Casey has been spectacular in holding up the ball and winning headers.
Portland have made two changes at halftime, bringing on David Horst and Adam Moffat for Peter Lowry and Kevin Goldthwaite.
