Sporting Kansas City didn't take long to get their first goal of the season after a Chivas USA defensive calamity. A free kick was swung in from deep less than two minutes in, and although Ben Zemanski had a chance to hammer the ball out, he opted to take a touch to control the ball in his own six yard box. This was a mistake on two levels - the first, more obviously, is that rookie striker C.J. Sapong was right behind him, and the second was that his touch was terrible anyway. I have no idea what possessed the midfielder to pull that little stunt, but no matter what it was Sapong took his opening like an opening, seizing the loose ball and hammering an unstoppable shot past Zach Thornton.
