Kyle Beckerman's strike from about 22 yards out has given Real Salt Lake a 1-0 in the 64th minute of their opening weekend match against the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday. Beckerman was all alone at the top of the "D" when he received a pass, quickly turned and fired it toward the far post. Jon Busch, who had come up big to stop a breakaway by Ned Grabavoy just a few minutes earlier, dove but the ball the hit off the post and into the back of the net.

Real Salt Lake has controlled must of the play in the second half despite going against a driving wind and rain at Buck Shaw Stadium. they have been able to create several opportunities despite conditions that have made the footing less than ideal and caused the ball to skid across the slick surface.
Simon Dawkins, who was just signed by the Earthquakes after coming over from Tottenham Hotspur, has just entered the game as the Earthquakes will try for the equalizer.
