It's not been an ideal day for Sunderland, despite the fact that they're holding out fairly well against their guests so far. It's not just Liverpool they seem to be playing against at the Stadium of Light - pestilence has reared his ugly head and that least-fun horseman of the apocalypse is merrily decimating the ranks of Steve Bruce's men. First to go was Sully Muntari, the Ghanaian limping off after seventeen minutes after being down on the ground for some time with a back injury.
Sunderland Vs. Liverpool: Sully Muntari, Kieran Richardson Both Off Injured
Then, six minutes later, it was Kieran Richardson's turn to go down after a corner. Steed Malbranque was the man to come on for the versatile midfielder (Lee Cattermole took Muntari's place earlier), and Bruce has now been forced to use two of his three substitutes in the opening 23 minutes. Oh, and Sunderland are 1-0 behind too after a penalty award that's probably best-described as 'that's not a penalty you're a crazy crazy man Mr. Referee.'
Not the best day.
