It's half time at the Stadium of Light, and the score is currently Sunderland zero, Liverpool one, injuries two, making that the home side aren't having a great time of things. On top of the injuries sustained by midfielders Sully Muntari and Kieran Richardson, Sunderland are having to deal with some major injustice in terms of how the match is going as well. They've outplayed their guests and should probably be ahead on the balance of play, but what makes things even worse is that Liverpool's goal was scored by Dirk Kuyt on a penalty awarded for this foul:
Sunderland Vs. Liverpool: 1-0 To Liverpool At The Half Following Controversial Penalty

I've helpfully shaded the actual penalty area in yellow, in case there was some doubt as to where on the field Jay Spearing was running. Anyway, that's clearly a horrendous call: Jon Mensah was nowhere near the edge of the box when he committed that foul, and referee Kevin Friend initially ruled it a free kick only to be advised otherwise by linesman William Smallwood, who insisted that it was in fact a penalty. Said penalty was duly given and dispatched.
If one goal ends up being the margin of difference in this match, Sunderland have every right to be very angry about the result.
