What's the best strategy for taking all three points from your competition in order to stay in third place in Serie A? Why, having your first-choice goalkeeper commit a needless foul and be sent off in the 22nd minute. That's how Inter Milan approached their game with Lazio, with Júlio César charging out to stop Mauro Zárate, denying the Lazio attacker a clear goalscoring opportunity. Zárate, who impressed coming off the bench against Catania last week, took the penalty himself. Luca Castellazzi (Diego Milito made room for the substitute keeper) guessed correctly but could not stop the shot by the Argentine.
Inter Milan Vs. Lazio: Julio Cesar Sent Off, Mauro Zarate Converts Penalty To Give Lazio 1-0 Lead
If Lazio manage to keep the lead -- not that it should be that difficult, with Inter down to ten men -- the three points will put them even with the nerazzurri, tied for third place in Serie A. What a season for last year’s champions, out of the Champions League and possibly unable to do more than earn a place in next year’s qualifiers.
